May 2019

Summer is here and it feels so good! Increasing temperatures and decreasing swells is the perfect combination for the toddlers and babies of this island. Ezra and I have been  taking advantage of the sunnier days living at Leftovers and enjoying the farmer's markets and bike path---especially since I know it is coming to a bittersweet end. I am elated about the idea of moving into our new house but Sunset is where it all began for our family. Ezra's first home and also the beautiful place where Randy and I started our lives together much before our sweet babies came into the picture. The next adventure is on the horizon and I am counting down the days but Sunset will always have a special place in my heart.

House Update
This has been the month of demolition. We originally did not plan to gut almost the entire house but once you peel back a layer and see what's behind it you can't help but want to keep going till you reach the bones. So we took out just about everything...the shower/tub, the entire kitchen, all the doors, and the drywall. In the process Randy found a few rat nests in the walls and kitchen and even had to kill one with only the use of cinder blocks and a small PVC pipe. He also cut down many of the trees that were too close to the house (which creates the rat problem among other issues). It's been quite an adjustment since Randy has been either working at the station or working on the house while I keep Ezra and my pregnant self going. My sister flew over from the Big Island for a couple days and helped us with some of the demo.

I have also developed a fixation for Home Depot and Lowes. Who knew I could be so interested in joint compound, bathroom tiles, or drawer pulls. Before buying a home I could have cared less about these places but right now they have more appeal than Savers! The list of decisions is incredible but thanks to all of my hard work of pinteresting I am ready for the task at hand ;)

April 2019

What a monumental month! So we kind of bought a house...whaaat?! Well let's all be honest--we convinced the bank to loan us money to "buy" a house...it will officially be bought in 20-30 years ;) Aside from that I couldn't be more stoked about our new place! It's going to be the cutest beach house you ever did see...all 676 sq ft of it :) It has a yard that kids can play in with NO ONE behind us!! Just trees and bushes which is incredibly rare!! And the chances of anyone building stuff is slim to none for a long time. Wanna know something else cool? I actually have a secret Pinterest folder called Dreamin and I "pinned" this exact house about 2 years ago (and no I didn't pin a ton of other houses either). This was the only one I wanted. The second I saw it I fell in love. Now you might be imagining this fancy-looking house (or even average-looking) but that is very far from the truth.

Let me paint a picture. The single guy who lived there before us had SEVEN indoor cats, smoked, and from what we could observe never fixed anything that broke. He also lived there for over 15 years so yeah I'm sure you can imagine the lovely smells and sights. I met a lady who lives across the street from us and she asked me in all seriousness, "Did you not see the inside before you bought it? Did you just see it online?" I laughed and told her that we did in fact go through the house and witness the inside in all of it's glory and chose to buy it still. She seemed puzzled but wished us luck anyway.

I am telling you though this house is a GEM! My standards are very different from the average person but it's only because Randy and I know exactly what we want for our family. This includes being somewhere warm that encourages being outside and doing active stuff with our fam. We also wanted to be around other families and in a place that isn't overly focused on materialism. Obviously you will have these things anywhere you live but I LOVE Waialua bc it seems to be less prevalent (at least where we live). Also a bonus was that we can literally walk to church bc it is right around the corner from us.

We have lived in our little studio for close to 7 years which is the entire time we have lived in Hawaii. Sunset Beach has been a wonderful spot to start out and we couldn't be more grateful to our friends/landlords who have treated us like their own children and taken us under their wing. They were the ones who encouraged us to buy a home in the first place but not until we were ready.

We won't be able to move in right away bc as you can imagine it needs some work. We almost pulled out of the deal at the last minute bc we were hearing rumors from the agents that the owner didn't want to leave and was holding paperwork hostage. We knew we wouldn't have the time and money to fight him out legally if he chose to stay so Randy decided to go see the owner and talk to him. This owner by the way was a very unique bird so he wasn't your average seller...a little eccentric. After Randy asked him what his plan was the seller assured us he wanted to sell the home and that  he just told his agent he wasn't going to sign the paperwork bc he was mad at her haha but that he had every intention of actually doing it...and you know what he did! We took a big risk by letting him stay in the house for over an extra week when all the paper work was done and we had closed on the house but this guy literally couldn't get stuff done on his own. Randy rented a moving truck and with the help of the missionaries moved the guy out of our house and into his new place. In the end everything came together. Now it is time to WORK.
Signing our lives away :)

In other news my pregnancy is going well. I had my second appointment with my midwife and I got to hear the heart beat for the first time. She even gave us a loaf of her homemade sourdough bread on our way out.Talk about service! I also met with Dr. Vicenti who delivered Ezra to get lab work done and do a quick ultrasound. We are waiting to find out what we are having so I made sure to let her know not to spill the beans to me. Also I am halfway through this pregnancy! I have been doing really well except I got the full blown flu. I have never had it before and I couldn't believe how much it kicked my butt! I learned my lesson though bc when I get sick it is almost always a combination of two things that create the perfect storm which is eating sugary junk food combined with lack of sleep. And that is exactly what I did right before I got sick not mention when you're preggy you seem to be a little more susceptible to sickness anyways so yes I have a whole new level of empathy for people who get the flu! Randy helped me through it with lots of hearty cooked meals, soups, and popsicles.

Our branch had their annual Easter celebration at the park. Randy and I let Ezra do his own thing when it came to egg hunting and we were very proud of his one egg he got all by himself! The field was littered with eggs but he just got so excited seeing all the kids running around he followed them but forgot to pick up eggs on his way. Can't say I was bummed---my evil mom side was just happy he didn't have a lot of candy to eat.

Ezra also got to have his first cousin sleepover and go to the water park with Holden and Nadia. Wendy was so kind to take Ezra when I was sick with the flu and kept him for 24 hrs! It felt so weird not seeing him for that long and although a part of my loved the break I began to miss him and was so pumped to see him return. He never seems to mind leaving us though. When Randy dropped Ezra off he didn't hesitate when Randy told him bye. He just kept playing with his cousins and their toys. We will miss you too son!!

Okay I know everyone loves different books but holy crap I found one of my new favorite writers! Her name is Lenore Skenazy and she wrote Free-range Kids: Giving Our Children the Freedom We Had Without Going Nuts with Worry. Not only is she an excellent writer who is level-headed and intelligent but she is also hilarious. I have NEVER laughed through a "parenting" book or even most books for that matter but Randy would hear me laughing out loud and ask what was so funny. Anyway, HIGHLY recommend.
