February
Summer started walking this month! She is obsessed with her swaddle blankets and totes them around wherever she goes. If she happens to catch you holding one of her precious swaddles, she will get mad at you and take it by force.
Ezra lost his very first tooth! It has been wiggly for a couple weeks and it finally came out during church! Luckily the blood was minimal, and he was happy to have a show and tell object for primary. This boy loves to fish but this month he has been going a lot with daddy. He is quite patient considering it took him almost a whole day and 3 different spots to catch one fish. Homeschool is also improving for us drastically!
I am not going to lie I hated it at the beginning. All our work with writing and letter recognition and sounds was grueling. Looking back now I wish I would have relaxed a little bit and not stress so much about making progress in such a strict time period. I guess these are some of the learning curves with being a first time homeschool momma. We now have found our groove and my absolute favorite part are the read alouds. I can't believe how many great books we have been able to read together so far (me reading to Ezra). The whole process has felt very bonding. I am convinced it has helped us with building our homeschool relationship.
Dare I say I may actually like homeschooling right now? We had a breakthrough moment this month with Ezra's letters. He told me out of the blue he could spell cat and sure enough he took the Bananagram tiles and did just that! I was so happy for him to see the progress he was making through his hard, consistent work. While letters/writing have been more challenging; math has been a breeze for him!
In other news, Mason is officially potty trained! It took about a week with a couple treats and plenty of big boy underwear (Sonic of course). I had been putting it off but had a renewed sense of motivation because the boys are going on a month-long trip to visit family. It can be hassle to pack diapers and wipes, so we set a goal to get it done before he left, and Mason did it!
It feels like a big milestone to not have one but two children who are no longer in diapers! Not to mention it saves a lot of money! Summer is our only diaper baby now.
March
We took the kids to their first political event at the state capitol. Traditional midwives are getting pushed out by ignorant law makers. The woman who has helped me with all 3 of my births is a traditional midwife. I will admit I felt deflated by how the process works for bills to pass. This bill (to protect traditional midwives) had already passed through 2 committees in the house and just needed to be put to a vote in the third (finance) committee. The leader of that 3rd committee chose to hold the bill hostage and not let it be voted on. So the bill essentially dies and you have to try again next time. I had no idea you could hold a bill like that, especially when it is pretty obvious it would have passed. It was a good lesson for me to learn. The kids were intrigued with the old large building and all the people who were passing through.
This month I lost my phone and it has been so freeing! I looked all over and although I could connect my bluetooth headphones to my phone it was nowhere to be found. I decided to try and see what it was like to live with no phone for a month. I absolutely loved it! In all honesty I didn't really miss it and I was much more present as a mom. I ended up going 2 months with no phone and then decided to get a "dumb phone" to replace it since the boys are leaving for their trip next month.
During this month I also had my root-canaled molar removed. It been bugging me and I finally decided to remove the whole thing. It has been a process but it feels good to have it out. Randy and I also had the opportunity to go on a real date for his birthday! Annie was so sweet to watch the kids for us while we had the chance to surf at Turtle Bay together. For our homeschool group we had such a fun activity! I had the kids do a treasure hunt with compasses.
